At the Eisberg Group, we are convinced: Responsibility does not end at the factory gate. A key pillar of our sustainability strategy is the intelligent use of water. Behind each of our crisp salads lies this precious resource, which we treat with the utmost respect.

The dimension of freshness🥬

In addition to fruit and other products, we process more than 18,000 tonnes of salad every year at our sites in Switzerland and Austria. The amounts of water required for its optimum cleanliness and the highest quality are therefore considerable: 14,000 people could be supplied with it for an entire year.

For us, it is clear: We do not simply want to consume water; we want to use it intelligently.

The principle of the second chance 🔄

Water is not a disposable product for us. In a two-stage washing process (wash bath 1 & 2 incl. final water curtain), it passes through a kind of relay race:

  • Reuse: The clear water from the second wash is far too good to simply pour down the drain. As the lettuce is still more natural in the first bath, the water is returned there. This way, we make optimal use of every drop.
  • Expanded cycles At our site in Dällikon, the cycle is taken even further. The treated process water there is used to irrigate nearby fields or to make our fleet of lorries gleam again.

Efficiency through optimisation ⚡️

Saving starts with the details. Instead of letting water flow over a large area, new e.g. B. High-precision spray nozzles in Marchtrenk on all cleaning hoses for maximum cleanliness with minimal flow.

By optimising the change rates in the washing baths and specifically reducing the amount of ice water, we not only save water but also a considerable amount of electricity. The effect is considerable: Less chilled water means lower energy consumption for cooling. The amount of electricity saved is equivalent to the energy consumption of thousands of household appliances.

Mindfulness in the small things 🛠️

Major changes often begin with small actions. Whether it’s consistently turning off the taps or promptly repairing even the smallest leaks – every drop prevented ultimately protects entire ecosystems.

Our aim remains: Maximum freshness on your plate, with a minimal ecological footprint. A responsible approach to water is, for us, one of the most crucial foundations for tomorrow’s food production. 🌍🌱
