Just like when you prepare lettuce at home in the kitchen, we also have waste when we process lettuce at the Eisberg factory: Some of the outer leaves are cut away and the stalk is removed. Instead of throwing these residues into landfill, we take care of its recycling at all Eisberg locations.

We have found the following sustainable solution to further use:

Most of the leaves and stalks that cannot be processed are sent to biogas plants. There they are converted into valuable electrical energy and heat.

And what’s special: At our site in Dällikon, we even have our own biogas plant with a combined heat and power unit. We feed the electricity generated directly into the power grid and use the heat sensibly – for example, to heat the water we need to clean our product containers.

In this way, we create a closed cycle and make an important contribution to environmental protection.

Every change adds up: This is the motto under which we inform about various sustainability projects at Eisberg – the big ones, but also the small ones. Because we are convinced: A sustainable approach does not always require major changes. Many small measures contribute to operating in a noticeably sustainable way.
