Just like when you prepare lettuce at home in the kitchen, we also have waste when we process lettuce at the Eisberg factory: Some of the outer leaves are cut away and the stalk is removed. Instead of throwing these residues into landfill, we take care of its recycling at all Eisberg locations.

At Eisberg Romania for example we have found the following sustainable solution to further use these:
  • The majority of the leaves and stalks, which cannot be processed, are taken to a nearby farm. The fresh feed is enjoyed by around 700 cows there, as well as other animals such as horses, goats and emus at the associated farm for children. Eisberg supplies the farm, which is only four kilometres away, at least once a day.
  • Anything that cannot be used there is sent to a biogas plant, which extracts energy from the green waste. In this way, Eisberg Romania recycles 100 percent of its salad waste.

We are happy about it – and the animals obviously are too.

Every change adds up: This is the motto under which we inform about various sustainability projects at Eisberg – the big ones, but also the small ones. Because we are convinced: A sustainable approach does not always require major changes. Many small measures contribute to operating in a noticeably sustainable way.
